The boat is old. It had already been in service for twenty years when it was renamed Starfarer, a nice name for a modernized interplanetary freighter. No one is sure that the ship will actually reach its destination, and no one cares much, since no one alive now will live to see it. You might as well move on with your life and try to make the best of it.
