Tempelhof, Berlin, in the early hours of April 8, 1949. A major armed conflict is brewing between the Western powers and the Soviet bloc. The Red Army has become increasingly stronger since the end of World War II. With their army growing, the Soviets realize they have the advantage and are just waiting for the right moment to attack. That moment comes with the Tempelhof incident: the near-fatal collision of an American cargo plane and a Soviet fighter over Berlin’s main airfield. A fatal combination of coincidence and human error, there is no point in arguing what went wrong, there is no point in asking who pulled the trigger first and who shot who in return. The Incident went down in history as fatal. 12 hours after the accident, the ground beneath the German capital trembles with the salvos of a war that was never planned: a conflict between former allies for Europe and global supremacy.
