This is the first chapter of the new When They Cry visual novel series produced by Ryuukishi07. It features HD graphics, more detailed animations, and newly created songs by many of Umineko’s composers, as well as several new additions. The Steam version can be played in both English and Japanese. Although the world was nearly destroyed during World War III, it was saved from a nuclear winter thanks to cutting-edge technology. One hundred years later, this finally gave rise to the ultimate new military technology, the Gauntlet, which fascinated children around the world. In this new era, all existing military forces would be obsolete, except for the small number of boys and girls who have what it takes to become a Gauntlet Knight. Young people are supposed to be the main characters of their own eras. But in reality they are nothing more than game pieces lined up on the board for the most astute and experienced. Should these boys and girls be forced to kill each other to pieces? Who are the pieces and who are the players? And who carries out the players’ orders? What victory conditions does each person have? Is it peace? War? Annihilation? Is the predicted tragedy a plan or an illusion, the future or reality?
