500 years ago, the demonic sorceress Abys was sealed beneath her fortress by four legendary heroes and a forgotten fifth. Over time, no longer sustained by the magic of Abys, the fortress sank into the earth and became a haven for foul creatures, dark magic, and the wastes of the Overworld. The fortress, now buried deep underground, became known as The Catacombs, and children everywhere were drawn into its shadows, searching for riches, power, knowledge and escape. Now, both coming-of-age ceremonies and criminal sentencings revolve around plumbing the depths of the Catacombs, and the legend of Abys has been all but forgotten. Some say she still sleeps in the darkness below, and the seals keeping her contained are becoming weaker and weaker.
