Chalice is a new take on the real-time strategy and base-building genre, pitting players against a relentless new enemy: the Calyx, a powerful group of alien plants that quickly spread to dominate the map if left unchecked. As the sole survivor aboard an Avaris Corporation deep space mining ship, you arrive in orbit of a barren planet and, despite having been frozen for over a century, you are tasked by the ship’s AI to mine ore from the surface. Your mission is to build an energy network, deploy collectors to collect minerals, refine resources and defend your base with walls, turrets, tanks and artillery to stop Calyx’s advance. Careful energy management is crucial to maintaining vital defenses, while securing rare resource deposits and connecting reinforcement buildings provides essential benefits for power, mining, and healing. Whether you choose to dig in and build a massive force or employ an agile and mobile strategy, Calyx offers a variety of approaches to overcome the various variants of hostile plants that threaten your position. Beyond base building and combat, players can protect data files to earn research points and unlock advanced units and technologies through a technology tree. As you progress, new weapons such as the Inferno flamethrower, massive multi-turret tanks such as the Goliath enhanced with hover technology, and devastating orbital laser attacks will become available. Maintaining communication sets unlocks access to the deep space network to scan the roots of Calyx and discover the biology of these hostile lifeforms. The game offers an early access campaign that includes a tutorial, 16 maps, five difficulty levels, and multiple Calyx species to take on. A Skirmish mode allows for customizable challenges with adjustable roots, resources, and tech levels, and players can share seeds to compete with friends on identical maps.
