Battle Brothers is a turn-based tactical role-playing game that puts you in command of a company of mercenaries navigating a gritty, energy-efficient medieval fantasy world. You control every aspect of your campaign in a procedurally generated open world, deciding where to travel, what contracts to accept, and who to hire or fight. The game combines a strategic world map, where you manage your company’s workforce, equipment and resources, with a tactical combat layer featuring detailed turn-based battles. Each encounter requires careful planning, as your men face brutal wounds and permanent death; fallen characters are lost forever unless they return as undead. Each mercenary has unique backgrounds and traits, allowing for diverse character development without restrictive classes, and experience gained in battle unlocks powerful perks. The equipment system is equally nuanced, with different weapons offering different abilities, such as forming walls of spears or stunning enemies. The world of Battle Brothers is rich and dynamic, featuring a wide variety of enemies with unique behaviors, equipment, and AI tactics. Outside of combat, a dynamic event system features atmospheric encounters and difficult decisions that shape your journey. As you progress, looming late-game crises, including wars between noble houses, greenskin invasions, and scourges of the undead, add layers of challenge and tension. The game’s immersive experience is enhanced by a fully orchestrated two-hour soundtrack and numerous achievements.
