Axiom of Maria is an action-adventure game set in the near future of Seoul transformed into a ghost city due to population decline and a devastating epidemic. The preservation and management of the city has been handed over to artificial intelligence systems, while the deceased are uploaded to a virtual realm known as the Beyond, where death is redefined as migration. Players take on the role of Kay, a former instructor with the elite 707th Special Missions Group, who finds herself caught in a deadly conflict between the 15th AI Squadron (AISOC), charged with overseeing Beyond, and a rebel faction called the Irregulars, who seek to free the dead by destroying this virtual world. When Kay’s husband, an irregular, mysteriously disappears, she and her daughter are detained by AISOC, only to be rescued by a mysterious organization called Escuela. Led by Principal and Professor Jeong, the school helps Kay in her quest to locate her missing husband and uncover the truth behind the city’s mysterious transformation. The gameplay emphasizes fluid, fast-paced sword action as Kay wields a reactive sword designed to counter enemies that rely primarily on firearms. Combat is intense but accessible, combining skillful melee attacks with strategic timing to respond to incoming fire. To add variety to the experience, Kay’s motorcycle sections feature auto-movement, requiring players to control their position to engage enemies or jump over elevated roads, maintaining a dynamic flow between high-speed chases and close-quarters combat.
