ANONYMOUS;CODE is the latest creation from STEINS;GATE mastermind Chiyomaru Shikura, developed in collaboration with returning staff from the acclaimed Science Adventure series. Set in Nakano, Tokyo, in 2037, the story follows Pollon Takaoka and his best friend Cross Yumikawa, professional hackers eking out a living after the catastrophic “Sad Morning” event of February 6, 2036. When Pollon suddenly announces his intention to “elope”, despite being single, he soon encounters a mysterious girl named Momo in a forbidden location. Their encounter sets off a dangerous chain of events, including attacks by unknown assailants and the acquisition of a “Save and Load” app that gives Pollon the power to rewind time like in a video game. As Pollon delves deeper, he becomes entangled with enigmatic figures like the genius hacker Cicada 3301, the Earth simulation-reviving Gaia Institute, and the Vatican’s shadowy Holy Office 513, all converging toward global upheaval. The game focuses on a unique visual novel experience where collaboration between the player and Pollon is essential. Players must strategically advise Pollon on when to use the Save and Load functions, influencing the direction and outcome of the narrative. The innovative Hacking Trigger system replaces traditional branching mechanics, requiring players to exercise judgment and timing to alter future events and unlock different endings. Partial controller support is included and the developer recommends the Gamepad template for optimal gameplay. Combining a gripping sci-fi thriller with interactive decision-making, ANONYMOUS;CODE invites players to hack reality itself and rewrite the future through their choices.
