Strange Tales of Adabana is a visual novel from Liar-soft, the creators of acclaimed titles like Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning and Kindred Spirits on the Roof. The story follows a girl named Shirohime who wakes up in a dark, unknown forest with no memories. She is suddenly attacked by a monster but saved by a mysterious boy named Kurofude, who wields a brush like a sword. Kurofude addresses her by a name she does not recognize and explains that they are in Adabana, a kingdom of picture books where stories are like fleeting dreams. Your mission is to travel through these storybook realms, searching for distortions and restoring the tales. Shirohime, despite her amnesia and doll-like behavior, accepts her role and opens a tattered book titled Hanasaka Jiisan, which transports them both to a fairy tale world filled with strange creatures and characters from classic tales. The game features a cast of memorable characters, including the calm and collected Kurofude, who uses his paintbrush to repair stories and fight enemies, and Shirohime, who can capture ink-eating bookworms that threaten the integrity of picture books. Players will encounter figures from various folk tales, such as the gentle Hanasaka Jiisan, the mysterious and forthright Otohime of the Dragon Palace, the resourceful Urikohime, and the righteous hero Momotaro. The narrative unfolds as the duo work to correct the distortions caused by these bookworms, restoring the original stories to their rightful form. With art by Ryuko Oishi, music by Momoko Sapporo and Shinichiro Matsumoto, and a setting created by Nozomu Umihara, Adabana Odd Tales offers a unique blend of fantasy, mystery, and classic folklore in a beautifully illustrated, immersive experience.
