9-nine- takes place in the ordinary university town of Shiromitsugawa, where an earthquake shatters a sacred artifact from the White Snake Shrine, releasing jewel-like items that grant their possessor special powers called “Artifacts” from a parallel world. When an incident arises involving a power that transcends human understanding, Kakeru Niimi, our protagonist, investigates various branches (parallel worlds) in order to resolve the matter. With the brain finally revealed, Sophitia, an otherworldly entity determined to recover the Artifacts, tells him to defeat this person pulling the strings. On the first day, the day the festival was canceled due to the earthquake at the shrine, Kakeru is now equipped with memories from each branch and is on the move to resolve this conflict. In the midst of this, a girl with a strong sense of justice from Kuho Girls Academy, Noa Yuuki, has an ability that seems to be the key to defeating the mastermind. Knowing this, Kakeru tells him about the events in other branches. As the secrets behind why the Artifacts come to this world are uncovered, scores are settled with the User of the Evil Eye, what will be the fate of these young men and women with otherworldly powers at their fingertips?
