Set in Shiromitsugawa, a typical university town struggling to reinvent itself through failed tourist campaigns and a poorly received anime based on local folklore, 9-nine-: Episode 1 immerses players in a supernatural mystery that unfolds amid an impending storm. The story follows Kakeru Niimi, a man known for his gruff behavior but strong sense of responsibility and kindness, whose daily life is turned upside down when the local shrine’s sacred relic is shattered. This event triggers the awakening of superhuman abilities in several young residents, transforming the once-mundane town into a battlefield where Kakeru and heroine Miyako Kujo must work together to track down a super-powered serial killer before more lives are lost. Episode 1 is the first installment of the 9-nine series, and each entry features a different heroine but shares the same richly developed setting and supernatural themes. The game combines a gripping murder mystery with elements of growing trust and romance between the protagonist and heroine, offering an engaging narrative experience that can be enjoyed independently of other episodes. Beautifully illustrated by Izumi Tsubasu, known for SakuSaku: Love Blooms with the Cherry Blossoms, the game features a compelling script by screenwriter Kazuki Fumi, full Japanese dubbing including the main character, and multiple endings.
