Today, who doesn’t know the Counter-Strike 1.6 game?!
It’s the top 1 game in action gaming history! Many of you have played it for years, but did you ever ask how did it start?!
In this blog post, we will share with our players and all the cs 1.6 fans the history of the historical game!
The beginning of the Counter-Strike video game:
You might wonder why CS 1.6 folder includes “hl.exe”, as well as many of Half-Life files!?
The fact is, CS 1.6 was released the first time as a modification for Half-Life (mod).
In 2 weeks, this modified mod of HL1 had received over 10K hits! On June 19, 1999, Valve has decided to release the first public beta of Counter-Strike, followed with multiple betas versions.
Finally, the first official release was on November 9, 2000, when Valve has decided to release Counter-Strike V1.0, with the mod, retail and server-side based.
The next release was on January 25, 2001. With the fixes of lags at the beginning of the map and the “listamaps” command (shows the list of the maps) and some other fixes. The version was under the name of Counter-Strike 1.0b.
Counter-Strike 1.1, March 13, 2001. This version was a good jump to some of today’s version of the game, starting with the spectator mode to adding new maps (including the popular Dust2).
This last version was the firstborn of nowadays CS. Dust2, Inferno and Vertigo were born with it! As well as adding multiple server’s Cvars (mp_timelimit, mp_roundtime, mp_buytime), as well as different fixes and models updated (defuser kit, C4…)
The next update was a server-side one, making players a little more comfortable to play. In the Counter-Strike 1.1c, the incorrect hitboxes while holding some specific weapons were fixed. A new footprint on April 6, 2001.
After a while, a new bug known as the “white skin bug” become somehow popular between the CS players. That forced Valve to make the new release and solve that problem.
“GL texture binding problem”, as they called it! At the same time, they added the deathmatch classic, optimized model drawing and pulled out the Counter-Strike 1.2 version on June 30, 2001, with the new automatic update system!
Personally, I didn’t found any major updates to the 1.3 version. Released on September 12, 2001, Counter-Strike 1.3 contains mod, retail and server-side updates.
Starting with the update of the inferno map, they added Storm, Survivor and Torn maps and removed both Rotterdam and Thunder. The scoreboard was redesigned as well, with the update of the menu background and different other fixes.
A new cs version comes out, and this it was really bad for the cheaters (hackers of any kind). The first release with the Anti-Cheat protection comes with Counter-Strike 1.4 on April 24, 2002.
Some other update of the cs game was the fixing the bug of planting the bomb, which forces the player to stand on the ground to plant it.
This update includes also the remainder of the dead bodies on the ground, as well as the fix of the bug of Bomb defuses, players no longer can jump or shoot while defusing (it was crazy, I know!)
This version includes other updates too, fixing the smoke grenades, T skin on CT team. Many other small fixes/changes were made at this version (maps, HUDs…)
On June 12, 2002, Valve has released the Counter-Strike 1.5 game. They were no major updates on this game, but good work on fixing some game bugs.
Starting from “mp_hostagepenalty” fix (wasn’t working at all), rcon bug in HLTV. To the log of bans and kicks (sv_logbans…) and the game freeze on exit.
Counter-Strike 1.6 (CS 1.6) release date:
Now we come to the big star! We all know this version of the game or at least let’s say the name of this version!
Counter-Strike 1.6 (know as CS 1.6) is the last name of the Counter-Strike names update until today. But what most of the people don’t know, the CS 1.6 of today is not the same as the first release!
On January 16, 2003, Valve has released for the first time the update of the “CS 1.6” version as the first beta version under this name.
This version doesn’t have only the new name, but it was a total rework of the game!
The first obvious change that any CS player can remember from this update was the rework of the launcher UI (User Interface). But that was just the start!
At this point, the famous CT Shield (riot shield) was added as well. Inferno, Aztec and Airstrip got updated once again. And the good surprise for the old day players was the widescreen view mode which made it more fun!
With many other server-side and bug fixes, the new frags for defusing/bombing the Bomb (C4), CS 1.6 was different from the first beta version, and at this part was the fun for most of the players (including me!)
Followed by a big number of beta versions, Counter-Strike was released Officially as a stable version on September 9, 2003!
Valve still making and improving the game until today! And today, in 2019, There still a big number of Counter-Strike 1.6 (CS 1.6) players!
